"The Sheep Lady" finished and a new project..

Well time just flies doesn't it - Xmas is over and the New Year is here already and it's time for P&P, PPF and AIB again. I seem to always be in a rush to write these blog posts and get them in on time. Might be something to do with the fact that Western Australia is 3 hours behind the Eastern states and it's 2:22pm here. I feel a bit slack for writing one post for all three link parties but I don't have enough going on to justify a few different posts.

I had to work New Years Eve at the hotel, however we had a small but good crowd. My two bosses cracked open some champagne at midnight and we enjoyed a couple of glasses each. Bryan, Manon, the kids and I drove to Denmark for New Years Day and spent it with a couple of our best mates, complete with BBQ and a few top many good drinks.

Today I finished "The Sheep Lady" with a few final touches applied - now I just have to varnish it and it will be done! I will actually be using this as my new blog header when I get around to it.

Here is my palette for this one - I do love the fact that it dries so quickly so I can't accidentally mix colours.

Before we left for Denmark and while I was waiting for my hibiscus to dry I started a project that will be a gift for my mother and I need to get it finished soon so I can take it across wit h me on the 18th of Jan. It is a shearing shed at sunset with sheep going into the shed, and sheep dogs. I need to put the sunset light glaze once everything else is finished. It is painted in my new oils. It is touch dry now so I should be able to continue on the next few layers.

Here is my palette for this one
This is being showcased on Palette and Paint on Tracey Potter's blog: http://traceypotterartist.blogspot.com/2012/01/palette-paint-7.html, Paint Party Friday - http://paintpartyfriday.blogspot.com and Artists in Blogland http://artistsinblogland.blogspot.com

  1. The Sheep Lady turned out great! Can't wait to see the painting for your mum finished.

Thanks for joining in with P&P again Ellie, I loved seeing both of your palettes, they are very different surfaces, do you prefer the glass or the cardboard palette, or vise versa?

I've showcased both your paintings and palettes over on my blog: http://traceypotterartist.blogspot.com/2012/01/palette-paint-7.html

I hope your holidays were brilliant & 2012 is off to a wonderful start.

  2. Thanks Tracey, I am planning on joining each week - it gives me the motivation to paint each day which is wonderful!

I prefer the acrylic palette but am thinking about getting some disposable ones because cleaning up the oils is a bit of a pain and I'm a bit slack when it comes to cleaning it each day.

I just use the cardboard for the acrylics because they don't sink into it like the oils - and because I don't have another palette.

Thanks for showcasing my paintings on your blog!
